About the Founder

Hi, I’m AC. I’m a sound and media artist working at the intersections of archival stewardship, systems design, and experimental composition. I’m also an archival consultant with over a decade of experience designing preservation workflows for media-rich, artist-driven collections that span the transition from the primarily-analog to the mostly-digital age.
I’m the founder and director of Critical Interval, a consultancy and production studio for archival strategy, and the creator of arkospore, a modular software platform for building customizable artist-centered databases and metadata systems. I currently manage the Ugo Rondinone Archives, previously led the Giorno Poetry Systems Archives, and have worked on projects with Electronic Arts Intermix, Pacific Zen Institute, Lois Vierk, and the Deep Listening Institute, among others. My own artistic work has been supported by the Wave Farm/NYSCA Media Arts Assistance Fund, a NYFA/NYSCA Artist Fellowship, and a Van Lier Fellowship from Roulette Intermedium. I hold an MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, and teach graduate courses at NYU Steinhardt, including Creating with Interactive Media and Advanced Computer Music Composition.
My consulting practice is informed by years of hands-on work in art-and-tech spaces—ranging from electronics fabrication and embedded systems, to studio build-outs and digital instrument creation. I began working in archives in 2013 through peer-to-peer training with fellow artist-archivist Marcia Bassett, initially focused on John Giorno’s paper archives. In 2015, I assumed my first managerial role with the collection.
Following Giorno’s passing in 2019, my role expanded into legacy stewardship—supporting the transition of an artist’s life’s work into long-term care. This experience deepened my understanding of how strong archival practices during an artist’s lifetime can ease the legal, logistical, and administrative challenges that follow. It’s for this reason that I do this work: to help artists build archives that remain navigable, adaptable, and usable by future generations.
